Take the interstate north to Fort De Soto Park, near St. Pete Beach: five connected islands, many campsites on the water, free fishing piers and boat and bike rentals. Its beach has been voted among the best in the US.
On to Orlando and the theme parks. Suggested overnight: Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (book well in advance and decide how many nights you want for the parks; extra days on request).
